But before we get into the details, <strong>we must understand what an asset is.<\/strong> Initially, PAS 55-1:2008 defined it as: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cPlants, machinery, properties, buildings, vehicles and other items that have a specific value to the organization.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A definition that could lead to identifying a company&#8217;s assets as those physical elements that provided value for it. However, in that public specification they already spoke of <strong>5 types of assets:<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"contenida aligncenter wp-image-29780 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/becolve.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Imagen1-eam-post.png\" width=\"648\" height=\"289\" srcset=\"https:\/\/becolve.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Imagen1-eam-post.png 648w, https:\/\/becolve.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Imagen1-eam-post-480x214.png 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 648px, 100vw\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Years later, ISO 55000:2014 expanded the definition as follows:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cAn asset is anything that has potential or real value to an organization. Value can vary between different organizations and their stakeholders and can be tangible or intangible, financial or non-financial.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This new definition was a better fit for reality. In addition, the same ISO 55:000 also tells us about <strong>what asset management is:<\/strong> <\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cCoordinated activities of an organization to obtain value from its assets\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>According to this, Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) is <strong>any activity carried out by a company in order to extract value from all its assets,<\/strong> whether physical, financial, information, human or intangible. Likewise, asset management also includes aspects of human assets such as leadership, culture, motivation or behavior, among others, which cannot be managed through software. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"contenida aligncenter wp-image-29782 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/becolve.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Imagen2-eam-post.png\" width=\"981\" height=\"512\" srcset=\"https:\/\/becolve.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Imagen2-eam-post.png 981w, https:\/\/becolve.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Imagen2-eam-post-480x251.png 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 981px, 100vw\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In order to standardize all these activities, there are <strong>asset management systems.<\/strong> <strong>ISO 55:001:2014<\/strong> is the international standard that allows <strong>certifying the asset management carried out by an organization.<\/strong> In it, we find the most recognized definition of these systems:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cAn asset management system allows you to direct, coordinate and control asset management activities in order to maximize the value you obtain from your assets.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Thus, an <a href=\"https:\/\/becolve.com\/blog\/que-es-un-sistema-eam\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>enterprise asset management system<\/strong><\/a> (or <strong>EAM system<\/strong>) is software designed to manage and coordinate all the internal processes and procedures of an organization.
