OPC Router: the Best Way to Enter Data into InfluxDB<\/h2>\n

The use of time series databases<\/strong> is growing every day since, unlike classic databases, they match much better with the Big Data paradigm<\/strong> and the massive study of data with time stamps, such as record monitoring, metrics, sensors, DevOps monitoring, etc.<\/strong> Among these NoSQL databases, InfluxDB stands out especially. <\/p>\n

The characteristics of InfluxDB<\/strong> allow storing and querying large amounts of data with time stamping in an optimized way and, therefore, data analysis tools such as Grafana or Microsoft’s Power BI<\/strong> are already incorporating simple connectivity drivers to this type of database. Currently, companies such as Visa, Lego, Electronic Arts, Airbus or NASA<\/strong> use it as a database for analytics projects. <\/p>\n

The industrial and infrastructure environments<\/strong> are not immune to these initiatives of analytics and massive data study, therefore, in order to deploy the full power of InfluxDB, it is required to be able to insert all the data generated in an installation. That’s where OPC Router comes in. <\/p>\n

OPC Router<\/a><\/strong> incorporates a specific Plug-in for InfluxDB databases.<\/strong> In this way, all the information from the different management systems of the installation (SCADAs, ERPs, IoT platforms,\u2026)<\/strong> or directly from the process control can be inserted into this database. In this way, OPC Router allows deploying BigData projects<\/strong> where the entire data of the installation can be studied with continuous insertions in real time. <\/p>\n

The process to insert values in OPC Router<\/strong> is the same as in the other Plug-ins, create the InfluxDB object instance<\/strong>, create the information flow where the communication is defined and send it to Runtime. Once done, it can be checked if everything works correctly. <\/p>\n

Currently, at Logitek we have an example set up and running where OPC data is inserted into an InfluxDB that is consulted by Grafana.<\/strong><\/p>\n
