This November, the new version 4.14 of OPC Router<\/strong> has been released, which includes, among other improvements, the new plug-in for MongDB databases<\/strong>. MongoDB is arguably the most popular and widely used NoSQL database. <\/p>\n

Relational databases<\/strong> are undoubtedly the standard type of database in automated processes<\/strong>, both industrial and infrastructural, since the concept of a relational database fits very well in specified environments, with clear dependencies and where data flows always follow a defined scheme.<\/p>\n

Relational databases<\/strong> are usually installed close to production in order to guarantee low communication latency and, above all, high data availability. However, relational databases have shortcomings when it comes to managing data located at different points<\/strong> from multiple sources, even more so if a high degree of reliability and availability is required. It is in this circumstance that NoSQL databases offer better performance, as they create high-availability copies to handle large amounts of data distributed simultaneously. <\/p>\n

This new plug-in enables the bidirectional exchange of information<\/strong> between any other OPC Router<\/strong> plug-in and a MongoDB<\/strong> database.<\/p>\n

Without looking too hard, there are two types of projects that can benefit<\/strong> from this novelty: feeding process data into a MongoDB or using OPC Router as a data gateway between a relational database and MongoDB.<\/p>\n

Like the other plug-ins, this type of communication can be used or added to any other<\/strong> OPC Router project and configured graphically.<\/p>\n

As a particularity, the exchange of information with a MongoDB is usually done through JSON data structures<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

To build these JSONs, OPC Router has a specific complement<\/strong> for it that allows to break down the components of this structure in a visual and point-to-point way. In this way, a connection can be achieved quickly and without the need to have advanced knowledge in all these steps. <\/p>\n
