Large Influx of Professionals to the ProfiDays 2015

Logitek Profibus/Profinet Competence Center actively participated in the ProfiDay 2015. The triple event was the appropriate environment to catch up on Profibus and Profinet Technologies directly from...

The most present fieldbus in the industry is Profibus, based on a technology whose foundations were established 25 years ago. Far from being obsolete, the number of devices based on Profibus technology grows year by year. Similarly, Profinet technology, with greater flexibility and potential, is in the process of being implemented in the industry.

The market’s interest in both technologies, Profibus and Profinet, has been demonstrated by the large influx of professionals to the events organized by the Spanish Profibus/Profinet Association (Pies) last June in Barcelona, Bilbao and Madrid, in which the Logitek Competence Center actively participated with several presentations and a stand where all those people who wanted to clarify their doubts approached.

The Logitek Competence Center is the only center approved by the Profibus/Profinet International association to teach certified training courses in Profibus and Profinet technologies. With the knowledge of our certified engineers, we were able to attend the ProfiDays to contribute our experience in the aspects to take into account in both technologies.

With the years of Profibus’ existence in the market, our engineers have accumulated a huge amount of hours of experience teaching training courses and performing audits of Profibus networks. This allowed us to give a presentation at the ProfiDays on aspects to take into account when designing and implementing a Profibus network, so that it is done with the highest quality, ensuring a long life to the installation, with the fewest possible communication problems. Today, tools continue to appear on the market to optimize cabling, such as Profibus hubs, which allow star architectures to be made, facilitating cable routing and simplifying line maintenance.

Profinet technology is strongly entering the industry as a fieldbus based on Ethernet technology, providing greater speed and flexibility than Profibus technology and allowing us to adapt to the imminent arrival of Industry 4.0. However, the communication problems in Profinet are very different from those in Profibus and this is causing some doubts in engineers. One of those doubts is related to cybersecurity, taking into account that the physical medium is the same in which cyber threats move so comfortably. That is why another of the presentations given by the Logitek Competence Center was that of “Cybersecurity in Profinet networks”, in which we address those aspects to take into account when implementing a Profinet network free of possible threats.

In the ProfiDays an exhibition area was established where each of the members of the Profibus/Profinet Spain Association (Pies) had the possibility to show their novelties. In the case of Logitek Competence Center, we showed the tools we use for the diagnosis of Profibus and Profinet networks, tools for remote and continuous monitoring of Profibus networks, and tools to optimize Profibus networks.
