- Implement advanced technologies during the pandemic, maintaining remote operations and ensuring the continuity of projects.
- Reduction of energy consumption of high-pressure pumps by 4.6%.
- Increase in production capacity by 16 m³ per hour.
- Decrease in the use of chemicals thanks to the implementation of virtual meters based on machine learning algorithms.
- Greater operational efficiency through better information exchange in the cloud.
- Optimization of energy consumption through predictive models in reverse osmosis systems.
- Implementation of digital twins that allowed remote testing and operations during the pandemic.
- Increased customer confidence through greater transparency and access to key information.
- Improved response and planning of operation and maintenance (O&M) teams, which since then access critical information in real time.
More than 90 years of commitment to the development and management of sustainable water, infrastructure and renewable energy solutions have made ACCIONA a benchmark in terms of sustainability and technological innovation. An example of this is the step the company has taken towards the digitalization of water, a vital resource that faces a growing scarcity.
Innovations with a Taste of the Future: New Water Management Model
In recent years, ACCIONA has transformed its water management model to face global challenges such as climate change and pollution. And it has done so based on:
- The implementation of the Water Control Center (CECOA), a technological hub that integrates equipment, data and advanced analysis to optimize processes. This center, which includes secure connectivity, information standardization and artificial intelligence algorithms, allowed the realization of remote commissioning during the pandemic, such as the Al-Khobar plant in Saudi Arabia.
- Advanced digital tools such as AVEVA System Platform, which provides a collaborative base for continuous operations; AVEVA Historian, which contextualizes historical data and combines it with real-time analysis; and CONNECT DataServices together with Advanced Analytics, which predict behaviors, optimize operating points and facilitate informed decision making.
- Virtual meters and predictive models: technologies such as Machine Learning to estimate parameters that cannot be measured directly. At the Arucas plant (Gran Canaria), high-pressure pumps were optimized, achieving energy savings of 4.6% and an increase in production capacity of 16 m³ per hour.
Next Steps: Plant Management System (P.M.S)
ACCIONA will continue with its technological evolution with the implementation of the P.M.S, a system developed for the advanced management of desalination plants. This system will integrate data from various sources into a single platform, incorporate predictive models to anticipate trends and reduce costs, improve collaboration and strengthen strategic planning.
