Electrical Monitoring and Control System for Inditex Logistics Centers

Electrical Monitoring and Control - Textile Sector
Partner:
Project objectives
  • Guarantee the electrical supply of the facilities.
  • Provide a global supervision tool for the entire electrical system.
  • Collection of installation alarms to facilitate maintenance tasks.
  • Reading of electrical parameters from the various measuring elements of the plant.
  • Global energy management of all facilities.
Challenges
  • Visualization of the complete single-line diagram of the installation, allowing remote control over the different motorized switches of the same.
  • Communication with all equipment located in the different transformation centers (in Modbus/TCP protocol).
  • Complex network of PLCs, communicated with each other through a Fiber Optic ring to perform emergency management of the plant.
  • More than 10,000 tags are managed in each application.
Result
  • Optimization and energy management. Analysis of all electrical meters in the installation.
  • Complete management of electrical alarms and events.
  • The possibility of visualizing the trends and graphs of all activities involved in the plant process is offered.
  • It has been possible to evaluate the operating and communication status of each of the equipment present in the control architecture.

The Inditex Group moves more than 850 million garments per year from its various logistics centers in Spain. These centers are highly automated, and one of the objectives of the Inditex Group is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the application of energy efficiency measures in all related activities.
Genelek Sistemas has developed the electrical monitoring and control system for these centers, specifically:

  • Arteixo-A Coruña (Zara Logistics, Foundation, Central Offices, Factories)
  • Tordera-Barcelona (MassimoDutti)
  • Sallent de Llobregat-Barcelona (Stradivarius).

The monitoring and control system developed for the different logistics centers is based on a complex network of PLCs distributed throughout the building, whose information is subsequently collected for visualization and analysis in a custom-developed SCADA system. The functions of the application are:

  • Management of the automatic start-up of the different emergency groups of the facilities in order to restore the electrical service as soon as possible in case of failure of the mains voltage.
  • Automatic control over the HV ring, remotely controlling the different cabins of each transformation center and supervising the status of the unions between the different centers.
  • Complete monitoring of the single-line diagram of the different centers, both at the level of the HV cabins and in the LV distribution boards.
  • Management of automatic load shedding of non-assisted loads in the event of voltage drops.
  • Communication with the measuring equipment of the different centers to obtain real-time measurements of the consumers.
  • Acquisition of a complete summary of alarms and electrical events of the different elements of each installation (switches, protection relays…).
  • Data acquisition for the realization of a global energy management of the different facilities.
