  • Improve communication between control centers and aircraft.
  • Offer safe and competent air transport in the digital age.
Challenges
  • Coordinate and execute a project with more than 75 locations involved.
  • Ensure accuracy and reliability in the solution, given the strategic importance of these centers.
  • Guarantee perfect harmonization between the new Ulises UG5K-based VoIP solution and the existing system.
  • Meet the high standards of quality and performance required by the project.
  • Achieve excellent results in terms of functionality, reliability, and technical support.
Result
  • More advanced and efficient communications platform.
  • Solid foundation for future innovations in the field of air navigation.
  • Elimination of operating costs and strategic risk due to dependence on third-party networks.
  • Protection of the investment already made in locations whose equipment maintains adequate conditions.
  • Possibility of making gradual technological changes, including those between incompatible technologies that are in interdependent locations and must remain operational at all times.

ENAIRE is the main air navigation manager in Spain, the fourth in Europe by traffic volume and one of the most important worldwide. It controls more than 2 million square kilometers of airspace, and serves two million flights each year with more than 250 million people.

As it is such a large operator, it needs constant modernization of its equipment to meet the minimum expected standards of safety and competence in the sector. Therefore, ENAIRE’s objective was clear: to completely renew the infrastructure of its services, adopting the advanced VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) technology.

Expansion of the Monitoring System

To achieve the initial objectives, the ORION system was modified and expanded, integrating the management of the gateways (AVEVA System Platform, KepServer), the supervision (AVEVA Supervisory Client), and the processing of historical records (AVEVA Historian) in the same application.

Results that are at Least Successful

This project represented an undeniable improvement in communication between control centers and aircraft and placed ENAIRE at the forefront of aeronautical technology in the digital age. Since then, the air manager has had a more advanced, secure, and efficient communications platform that leaves the door open to future functionalities that were previously unimaginable.
