GNOME232 is a simple and economical Ethernet to RS232 10/100 converter. This “gnome” allows easy connection of devices with the RS232 interface to Ethernet and is capable of extending a serial line to another part of the world via the Internet. (In terms of functionality, GNOME232 is 100% compatible with the previous version of GNOME).
Example of serial line extension via Ethernet.
Converter with Virtual RS232 Serial Port
The device is supplied including a “virtual serial port“, i.e., software that creates a new serial port in the Windows operating system directed to the GNOME232 module via the Ethernet interface. The RS232 line in the GNOME232 module connects in the same way as a standard RS232 connector on a PC. Therefore, it is also possible to use programs that only communicate via a serial port and are not designed to communicate via Ethernet.
Typical use of GNOME232 with virtual serial port.
Ethernet Converter Configuration
The module can be configured via web interface (in Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer) or serial line. The GNOME232 module even understands the DHCP protocol, so an IP address can be assigned to it automatically. Power supply and functionality are indicated by indicator lights.
It is also possible to supply a converter equipped with 256-bit AES communication encryption (Rijndael algorithm), please contact us.
We will be happy to help you use GNOME232 in your application.
Although Gnome converters are small and low cost, they can perform data processing tasks. If you are interested in this, do not hesitate to contact us, we will be happy to prepare a customized solution.
