So, What Can the SB232 Do and What is it for?
Nowadays, most new laptops do not have serial ports or, at best, have one. This is often insufficient and that is where the USB to serial converter comes in. The SB232 is an ideal companion for field application engineers working on legacy, often costly, devices. These devices and their laptops must also be protected from ground loops. Most USB to serial converters fail due to the lack of galvanic isolation. However, SB232 offers complete galvanic isolation while being powered from the USB port. Housed in an anodized aluminum case, it is also very robust, so it will not matter if you drop it by accident.
Principal of the virtual COM port: a standard COM port appears in your Windows operating system
SB232 offers a complete RS232 line: all RS232 signals are transmitted and the pin assignment of the connector is identical to that of a hardware COM port on a PC. Windows drivers also allow you to configure parameters to speed up data transfer and alter handshake signals. But the default values are sufficient in most cases.
