Last March 7th, Wonderware Iberia participated in the conference of the SMART PORTS event in its 2019 edition. An event focused on the intelligent management of ports and their digitization. Our speaker at the event was Santiago Ramírez, pre-sales engineer and head of Wonderware’s real-time management solutions, with extensive experience in infrastructure management and control projects. Santiago participated both in the round tables, contributing his vision and experience in the digitization and intelligent management of infrastructures (such as ports and airports), and in a specific talk that he will give with the title “Wonderware Integration Platform: Deploying SMART Ports”.

But… What are the MUSTs that a port infrastructure must meet to become a Smart Port? We justify it in the following 5 points.
1.) A real-time technology platform is necessary, which standardizes and integrates the different systems that are part of a port, such and as diverse as variable signaling panels, access controls, alarm dispatching systems, video surveillance, overhead cranes, among many others.

2.) It is also necessary to have an operations control center, with all systems integrated and that allows to manage and monitor in a unified and intelligent way the status of the port.

3.) The digitization of the specific processes of a port is key, as well as the exchange of information and services (workflows) between management operators, the maritime authority, the tower operator, the terminals, the shipping companies, among others.

4.) The geo-location and integration into the real-time platform of the port’s distributed Assets, as well as the creation and management of plans/scenarios by the port operators and the real-time integration with existing BIM models is also one of the MUSTs to become a Smart Port.

5.) Not because it is the last is it the least important, the need to analyze real-time data for the transformation of data into information, which allows to draw conclusions and be able to improve in decision-making and in obtaining relevant KPIs.
