End of Life for Autosave

The end of life (EoL) for Autosave is approaching. This article explains the support plan for this product in the coming years.

Solutions Manager

The market leaders in change management and backup of automation equipment, MDT Software and Auvesy, merged in 2022, resulting in the creation of Auvesy-MDT. The new company’s strategy has been to combine the efforts of both solutions to create the universal solution to the problem of controlling and tracking changes in OT: Octoplant

With this, the end of life for their respective products is on the horizon: MDT Autosave and Versiondog.

In this post, we will explain what the end of life means and what the support will be like for these products in the coming years:

Autosave stages

And What Stage of the Autosave End of Life are We in Now?

Currently, we are in the “Limited availability” phase.

This means that:

• During 2023 and 2024, it will only be possible to renew support and maintenance or request license extensions for existing Autosave installations. New Autosave licenses can no longer be acquired.

Full Maintenance: Full maintenance and support are available until December 31, 2024. During this period, existing functionalities will continue to be supported from R&D: for example, the necessary functionality will be added to support new versions of already supported editors or devices, but support for new devices will be added to Octoplant exclusively. Updates will also be provided to correct potential errors and security problems.

Full Support: Similarly, full support will continue to be available until December 31, 2024, i.e., there will be support to analyze problems encountered, whether or not a test environment is needed for troubleshooting or whether it is necessary to involve R&D (third level of support).

Limited support: From 2025, Autosave will no longer be updated or have support added for new versions. All development and programming efforts will be focused on Octoplant. Only level 1 or 2 support will be given, i.e., support that does not require intervention from the R&D team.

End of Life: In 2026, the Autosave lifecycle ends and support can no longer be renewed.

• In any case, there will always be the option of contracting consulting services.

To help clarify, the following figure shows an example of what actions can be taken and until when:

The recommendation today is to start planning the migration from Autosave to Octoplant, the new OT change management solution, before we run out of support or compatibility with new versions of the editors.
