Stridelinx is an industrial VPN routing solution that allows access to remote elements in a secure and controlled manner. Its functionalities provide great value to companies that want to control facilities or machinery located around the world:
Below, we explain the different elements that make up this solution to quickly understand how to work with one or multiple Stridelinxs.
In a simple way, the solution can be divided into three different components:
- The web portal
- The VPN
- The Stridelinx physical routers
A) the Web Portal
The VPN activation and device configuration is done through a web portal located at stridelinx.com
It is through this portal that all the day-to-day management of the use of the routers is carried out, whether to activate their use and access via VPN to the network to which the Stridelinx is connected, make any changes to its configuration, or manage users of the portal or the device in question.
The use and navigation is quite intuitive. Through the menu on the left, you can access different configuration windows, while everything that is selected opens in the center of the screen. Any user who has worked with programming software will find it simple, while those who have not, will also have it under control in a few minutes.
B) the VPN
The secure VPN connection is transparent to the user and does not require any configuration or programming. The only thing needed is to install a small software component on the computer from which it is intended to be used.
To download and install the installable, you must access the portal > menu Tools > VPN Client > Download.
Once the VPN client is installed, it does not require any additional configuration. The VPN against a specific device is activated or deactivated directly from the portal.
C) Stridelinx
The Stridelinx industrial routers are the only hardware element of the entire solution. They are the component in charge of establishing the virtual (VPN) and physical connection between the devices on the network and the user’s computer that accesses the portal.
The entire Stridelinx device family is designed to work in industrial environments and DIN rail mounting. Even so, there are three different Stridelinx models depending on the type of Internet access needed:
- Stridelinx with wired internet access physically to an Ethernet network.
- Stridelinx with internet access via Wifi
- Stridelinx with 3G/4G card
There is no other difference between them. Once installed and configured, they are all managed in the same way from the portal.
Example of use:
A typical use case of the Stridelinx solution is that of an engineer from a machinery manufacturer who wants to modify the programming, acquire certain data, or upload new firmware from a PLC installed in a machine located at the client’s premises.
If so, the engineer in question would access the portal, activate the specific VPN against the PLC – only that one – and at that moment they would have access to the PLC from their computer.
Once they have finished performing the necessary actions, they would disconnect the VPN again from the same portal
