Wireless Connectivity Solutions for Trains

Routers to cover communication needs in trains, with EN 50155 certification.

WiFi communication is currently of great importance in train communication, whether for Train-to-Ground or Train-to-Train communication, as WiFi remains a communication medium with high bandwidth, reliable, secure, and constantly evolving. In this way, the communication needs of trains can be covered, such as those mentioned below:

Uninterrupted Train-to-Ground Communication

With wireless solutions for trains via WiFi, constant transmission can be performed between the train and a ground station. In this way, a CBTC (Communications-Based Train Control) system can be maintained smoothly, in addition to other simultaneous services, such as VoIP, CCTV, Onboard WiFi, etc.

  • Fast Roaming less than 30 ms between access points, to avoid communication errors.
  • Train-to-Ground redundancy allows continuous communication even if an Access Point fails.
  • Communication at 350 km/h with a bandwidth of 500 Mbps.

Redundant Communication for Coupling between Train-to-Train Cars

One of the most common problems with wiring is that over time it suffers wear and tear in coupling and uncoupling installations (due to friction). Communication is not very robust for this type of application and requires costly maintenance. If there is no wiring, installing this type of infrastructure is even more difficult, expensive and, in some cases, impossible. For all these reasons, adopting a redundant solution for communication between cars via WiFi is the best option.

The ACKSYS SRCC solution (SMART REDUNDANT CARRIAGE COUPLING) is based on wireless couplers that only need to be configured once and, therefore:

  • Supports any change in the coupling of the cars on the train.
  • Provides an integrated, redundant, and reliable network.

SRCC (SMART REDUNDANT CARRIAGE COUPLING) and Train-to-Ground communication combined offer a complete network solution based on wireless technology to respond to any application need: CBTC, CCTV, PIS, or WiFi access for passengers.

Onboard WiFi for Passengers

Today, the Onboard WiFi service is a great advantage for both train communication and communication between passengers. Becolve Digital solutions are designed for both cases: the routers have a complete configuration interface that allows physically separate networks dedicated to WiFi for passengers. In this way, the rest of the communications remain stable and secure. It is also possible to configure different 802.11ac networks to obtain more bandwidth and higher speeds, in addition to avoiding interference with other networks.

  • Passenger network separated from other network services (VLAN, QoS / WMM, tunnel).
  • Up to 125 clients per radio.
  • Dual radio allows the same equipment to be used for passenger WiFi and SRCC.
  • Allows the configuration of multiple topologies.

Wireless connectivity solutions for trains

The connectivity solutions for trains from Becolve Digital are highly flexible: they allow multiple configurations and topologies, are powered directly from the train, as they can be powered from 24 VDC to 110 VDC, and have the necessary certifications, among others:

  • Railway: EN 50155, EN 50121-3.2
  • Safety: EN45545-2 (HL3), NF F16-101 (M1F1) (Fire and Smoke), EN60950-1, EN62311
  • Environmental: EN61373 (shock & vibration), EN60068 (climatic)

Becolve Digital offers a wide range of connectivity solutions for areas such as mining, IIoT, Industrial, Transportation in Buses, Trams and Trains.
