Partner:
Project objectives
Sector:
Airports
  • Control and monitor the electrical and emergency systems of the Barcelona Airport.
  • Ensure optimal operability.
  • Obtain greater efficiency and safety in energy distribution.
  • Facilitate decision-making through a clear and detailed visualization of electrical parameters in a local and centralized environment.
Challenges
  • Consolidate a precise and coordinated integration between the multiple systems.
  • Maintain service continuity during the supply, installation, and commissioning process of the systems.
  • Work with complex development technologies.
  • Adapt to the particular requirements of the CELT electrical substation.
Result
  • Successful integration of the different systems, including:
    • Emergency generator control panels.
    • Common panel.
    • SAD panels of the medium voltage cubicles.
  • More efficient distribution of generated energy, optimizing resources and improving the operability of the power plants.
  • Effective and customized tool for decision-making in the central control station.

AENA is a public company that manages airports of general interest in Spain.. The company controls 51% of ENAIRE and operates in 46 airports and two national heliports. One of them is the Josep Tarradellas Barcelona – El Prat Airport, the largest in extension and traffic in Catalonia and the second with the highest traffic in the country.

Its spacious surface complicates the coordination of all the actors necessary for the operation of the airport, among them, those that are part of the current system. Given this, AMPER committed to strengthening the aerodrome’s electrical infrastructure to provide more efficiency and safety to all users and operators involved.

Added Difficulty more than Overcome

The magnitude of the project required careful planning, a collaborative approach, and innovative technological solutions to ensure success in the modernization and improvement of the main system. Shutdowns in operability could not be allowed: everything had to continue working while the new systems were implemented.

In addition, the development of new applications in AVEVA InTouch HMI and AVEVA System Platform involved working with complex technologies and under the specific conditions of the CELT power plant. Without being impressed by an unfavorable scenario at first, the result was optimal: it was possible to mold a unique tool for decision-making in the central control station.
