Success story
Volkswagen Anhui – New Change Management System
- Implement a centralized and automated change management system in production equipment (PLC, robots, drives).
- Automate backups to ensure rapid system recovery in the event of failures.
- Improve efficiency in change management, thereby optimizing maintenance and minimizing potential errors.
- Detect and correct unauthorized changes in production to prevent interruptions and failures in the line.
- Manage a large volume of programs in different production areas (welding, painting, assembly) without an automated tool that ensures data consistency and security.
- The risk of interruptions was high due to the lack of rapid detection of changes in process logics, and could therefore affect the quality and safety of production.
- The limited time available to technical personnel was consumed with low-value, manual, and repetitive tasks.
- The solution had to ensure that employees could operate autonomously after implementation, minimizing the need for constant technical support.
- Increased security and operational efficiency, thanks to the automation of change management in production equipment.
- Detection and correction of unauthorized modifications, reflected in a significant reduction in downtime and unexpected failures.
- Increased productivity of the maintenance team, thanks to the elimination of repetitive manual tasks, allowing personnel to focus on higher-value work.
- Effective training of Volkswagen Anhui personnel, which allowed autonomous management of Octoplant without the need to receive continuous assistance from the manufacturer.
Since its joint foundation in 2017 by Volkswagen and Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC Motors), Volkswagen Anhui has established itself as a fundamental pillar in the production of electric vehicles in China, one of the world’s largest and most competitive automotive markets. More specifically, it represents a key company within the Volkswagen Group’s electrification strategy in the country.
Octoplant, a Strategic Step towards Sustainability and Electric Mobility
In line with Volkswagen’s green objectives, marked by a future of low emissions, Volkswagen Anhui has assumed in recent years the responsibility of expanding the group’s electric vehicle line and, in addition, adopting new automated production processes, based on digitization and integrating advanced technologies.
Among these technologies is the Octoplant solution, whose implementation allowed automatic backups and centralized management of equipment programs on the production line, significantly improving efficiency in change management.
Since then, the automotive group has standardized and unified management in its plants, and has become a benchmark for others in the sector that are pursuing the digital transformation of their facilities.
