Frequently Asked Questions
1. How do I generate the application report for support?
The Application Report is a tool that allows you to generate a folder with files that are very useful for diagnosing problems. When there is an incident, the technical support team is very likely to request it.
To generate it: from the top menu of OPC Router > File > Create diagnosis.
Once opened, select all the ‘Collect All’ checks and select a known location for the folder to be generated.
2. What is the relationship between OPC Router and OPC Servers?
OPC Router is not an OPC Server (although it can function as one), although it does have multiple synergies with OPC servers. Together they form a very powerful bundle where KEPServerEX, as an OPC server, is capable of acquiring all the field process data and serving it via OPC; and OPC Router will collect and direct them to any other destination (databases, SAP, other ERPs, printers, etc.) through its Plug-ins.
3. What are the limitations of the DEMO mode of OPC Router?
Testing OPC Router without installing any license hardly entails any restrictions, neither in terms of functionalities, nor configuration parameters, nor in the number of channels, devices or tags or limits in terms of its operation.
The only detail to take into account is that, without a license, OPC Router has a functional Runtime of 2 hours. Once this is finished, the service must be restarted to have 2 additional hours to do tests. This restart can be done from the top menu of the application, Service > Restart
One note, the installation file is the same, so if a project has been set up that works as desired in DEMO mode, the only thing that needs to be done to have an unlimited Runtime is to insert the license.
4. How does OPC Router licensing work?
The OPC Router licensing method is simple. In general, it can be summarized that each project needs a basic license and another for each type of connection it requires.
For example, a project where you want to acquire information from an OPC Server and send it to a REST server would need the OPC Router 4 Basic, OPC Router 4 OPC plugin, and OPC Router 4 RESTful-Plug-In licenses.
It should be noted that each time a license is acquired, maintenance for one year is also acquired. Once this year has passed, it can be renewed optionally. It is not mandatory, but it is highly recommended.
As a final detail, if the example project that was mentioned decided to add more connections, it would not be necessary to acquire the basic OPC Router 4 Basis license again.
5. How to configure email notifications?
OPC Router is capable of sending events by email to notify that an error has occurred.
Via the application menu, Extras > Settings you can find its configurator. The email can be used for the following scenarios:
- Data transfer errors
- Plug-in error
- Connection error
- The service has stopped or started
Once the other configuration fields have been filled in, the “Test” button will allow you to verify that the connection with the mail server works correctly.
