Do you know how the Critical Infrastructure Protection Law affects the management of the water cycle? How can water operators advance in industrial cybersecurity? This conference, which kicked off the 2016 Meet&Talk Events (#MATevents), revolved around these issues. We were able to witness several very enriching points of view on these two issues.

This conference was coordinated by Fernando Sevillano, Industrial Cybersecurity Manager at Logitek, and included the participation of INCIBE and expert professionals in industrial cybersecurity and technologies associated with water management.

The first speaker was Enrique Redondo from the National Institute of Cybersecurity (INCIBE): An entity that is developing different initiatives that seek to increase the security of industrial control systems in different sectors, especially tailored to Critical Operators, in order to minimize the risks to which these organizations are exposed.

In this sense, Enrique told us about the motivation, objectives, methodology, and tools that are proposed in this new framework of action that makes up the National Industrial Cybersecurity Scheme (ENCI).

On behalf of Logitek, Patxi Arruabarrena, Account Manager, focused on the security of the technologies used for the management of the integral water cycle; Fernando Sevillano, Industrial Cybersecurity Manager, focused his presentation on the progress and status of the application of the PIC Law, as well as on the key aspects of the Operator Security Plans; finally, David Soler, Industrial CyberSecurity Consultant, based his presentation on the explanation of the methodologies and tools for the analysis and security audits in critical environments.

We also had the presence of Erik De Pablos, Systems Audit Consultant and collaborator of Logitek, who conveyed to us the approach of the PIC Law to other critical infrastructures such as those related to the oil sector, focusing on the PSO (Operator Security Plans) and the PPE (Specific Protection Plans).

The attendees who filled the room of the Hotel Paseo del Arte in Madrid were able to learn firsthand about the risks, threats, and vulnerabilities that affect strategic infrastructures linked to the water sector, in addition to very complete information about the regulatory context of the PIC Law 8/2011, Royal Decree 704/2011, provisions 18439 and 10060 and National Industrial Cybersecurity Scheme.
