Public safety is a growing problem in many cities, especially in certain regions of the world. In the prevention of and fight against crime and insecurity, smart technologies can be exceptionally useful. Real-time intelligence systems provide police and emergency services with detailed information of great interest. What opportunities do smart technologies provide in the creation of safe cities?.

Our colleague Nuria Jiménez, head of the Smart Cities area of Logitek, spoke at this session on technology applied to cybersecurity in urban infrastructures.

This was the highlight of her speech:

“Possibly the cybersecurity of critical infrastructures has not had the attention it deserves: issues such as short-term planning or economic restrictions have highlighted multiple management vulnerabilities in the basic services of the city.”

“This has been a great opportunity to deploy technological solutions directly related to industrial cybersecurity capable of improving the security of these urban infrastructures.”

“From this perspective, we can talk about field devices, M2M communications, data integrity and availability… all the way to the very platforms that manage all the information in real time.”

The OT networks have traditionally been blind areas, but they are not so today because of their need for communication with the IT networks, which means that there is an urgent need to protect the OT network. How can we do it?

“First, the network and architecture should be analyzed, then a multidimensional analysis of the vulnerabilities associated with the OT environment should be carried out, the operational risk in the network should be evaluated to finally create a “Cybersecurity Master Plan in Infrastructures.”

The following also spoke at the session:

Víctor Martínez of NEC Ibérica, who spoke about the different technologies to make cities safer and how to use them, and insisted on a working method based on “analyzing what has already happened to foresee what will happen and be prepared to tackle it”.

Ronnen Avny, Head of Development Branch – Israel Home Front Command, who explained a national project called Home Front Command, a plan articulated around resilience, aimed at protecting local entities.
