Success story
Endesa – Process Optimization for Continuous Growth
- Optimize the logistics process of the coal terminals that the company owns in Spain.
- Create a technological environment to automate processes, collect information in real time, and analyze the activity of the terminals to achieve greater operational efficiency.
- The process to be optimized was carried out using Excel sheets, so in addition to the technological complexity involved in the project, it had a cultural management component.
- The particularity of the port logistics sector, in addition to the characteristics of the executed process, required a system capable of adapting to a multitude of devices and activities carried out and offering diverse types of users.
- The remote location of the facilities required web-based development to facilitate deployment.
- Endesa now has a fully automated logistics process in which reliable information is collected in real time.
- The system allows analyzing the reasons for inefficiencies and deviations, favoring the continuous optimization of activities with the consequent reduction of costs.
- All agents involved in the process have access to the information they need, in a simple way, in a web environment, thus being able to get directly involved in the improvement process that Endesa is carrying out.
Endesa is the largest electricity company in Spain, the leading private electricity company in Latin America, and maintains a solid presence in the European Mediterranean arc market. As one of the main Spanish listed companies, the multinational continues to firmly commit to growth as a way to provide value to society and its investors.
Sustained Growth and International Expansion
In the period 2011-2015, Endesa approved a strategic plan with investments adapted to market conditions, allocating 53% to Spain and Portugal and 47% to Latin America. This strategy allowed the company to balance its growth in mature and emerging markets, generating a positive impact both locally and internationally.
In addition to the electricity generation, distribution, and commercialization services, Endesa has continued to develop its presence in the Spanish natural gas market, reaffirming its commitment to the diversification and sustainability of its operations.
A Development that Goes Hand in Hand with Innovation
Because in the midst of all that strategic growth, Endesa is also committed to technological innovation to optimize its internal processes. An example of this is the modernization of the Ferrol Port Terminal, where the implementation of a control system allowed a more efficient management of resources and a significant improvement in logistics processes.
As stated by Ana Belén Paz, head of the Port Terminal:
Thanks to AVEVA technology, we efficiently manage the available resources, we have reduced the costs of the ship/port interface, the discharge/optimization ratios of times have been improved, and we have greater agility in communications due to the access of different interlocutors to the control platform, among many other advantages.
