If there is an important quality in an operations manager, engineering manager, or R&D&I manager of a machinery manufacturer, it is pragmatism. Among the possible changes that can be implemented in the machine or line – whether functional or technological – they should always focus on whether it will internally optimize their production or whether the client will give it tangible value.
With current technological advances, an OEM can have several areas for improvement. One of them is the ability to remotely access – easily and securely – its deployed machines using tools such as Stridelinx. The advantages that this implies for the OEM are clear, but, what value does it bring to the client? The client will most likely be reluctant to place remote access to their production, no matter how many confidentiality agreements are signed. Logically, from that point of view, why should a client take an unnecessary risk?
The answer to that question is simpler than it may seem at first. Below, we describe what a client can obtain if they use a remote access tool like Stridelinx:
1. The client obtains better after-sales service.
The most immediate advantage of enabling secure remote access to the machine or line manufacturer is that they can easily connect to it, modifying or fixing any type of problem that is occurring without any waiting. In short, the delay times for travel for programming, configuration, applying new firmwares… are drastically reduced. In short, the client obtains the necessary service in a faster and, therefore, better way.
2. The client obtains a more competitive product
Remote access also implies that the OEM can make more frequent periodic revisions of the machines, being able to detect possible problems before they occur. In the same way, having access to the data on how the machine works in production, they will be able to study it, learn from it, and apply improvements so that its performance improves, either the operating algorithm itself or replacing one type of part with another in the next physical revision of the machine, for example.
With the combination of these two points, it can be seen that thanks to a good use of remote access, the client reduces downtime and optimizes production, that is, producing more time and in a more efficient way.

3. The client will pay less (but you will be more profitable).
The fact of not having to travel so often to their facilities – sometimes without being clear when they are going to return – implies that the after-sales service should be cheaper. But that lower billing does not mean a problem for the OEM since, in return, the engineer or engineers who travel to the client’s facilities can continue working normally during all that time destined for travel. In short, a textbook win-win. Cheaper for the client, more efficient for the OEM.
For reasons like these, the use of tools like Stridelinx represents a significant improvement for both the client and the machinery manufacturer.
However, it is very important to always reassure the client about the use of data and the connection. Stridelinx covers these concerns by controlling access through a secure VPN that prevents communication with the machine to anyone who does not have the corresponding permissions. In fact, the client can maintain control of the connection by physically giving or removing internet access from the equipment – the LAN connection, the Wifi antenna, or the SIM card itself -.
