We are starting the logitek.es blog, after sharing our concerns with you from the representative websites of the different areas of the company. Concepts such as IoT, BigData, M2M, or Smart Cities have been common in our communications. What will we tell you from here?

Well, all that and much more… New technologies, starting with cloud services, social networks, or data analysis, and continuing with the connection of objects to provide them with intelligence, have brought about a true revolution in industrial processes, services, and even the most everyday activities. Focusing on industry or industrial communications, what does or will this change of scenery entail?

This unceasing change has multiplied the number of connections, turning any connected element into a part of a more efficient, more intelligent solution. In addition, a considerable mass of information is being generated. Obtaining and using this data gives rise to new business opportunities and a new digital value chain.

What could be the consequences of this change? Limiting ourselves only to the technological aspects would be considering only part of the possible opportunities. This “new era” also requires changes in business models, new skills, and an innovative vision.

Connectivity and intelligent industrial equipment must be the basis on which many companies can change the position of their business model. Intelligent functions and sensors and devices controlled by a monitoring network make it possible to work in conditions of profitability and optimal safety, while reducing the risk of downtime of any process.

With the data obtained, we have the basis to move from an economic model based on the sale of products to one focused on the provision of services. This is the feeling and the new reality of Logitek as a company, but many others will be able to follow the same path: In this way, a manufacturer of drilling machines will no longer sell its equipment, but its capacity to drill “holes”, in the same way that a company dedicated to the maintenance of automated buildings will sell services focused on energy saving, instead of the acquisition of equipment.

These changes will be possible due to the appearance of sophisticated, intelligent equipment connected to each other. But let’s not fool ourselves: the evolution from one model to another is a great challenge. A radically different approach is required; the consequences affect all the structures of the company.

From production to after-sales services, adapting to new business models requires innovative thinking. Transforming an organization focused on the product to a service concept is an important step forward for any company. It implies a series of changes, of challenges: how to define the offer, the way to budget or charge, how to support customers throughout the life cycle of the service? In fact, the product does not disappear from the orbit of the company, but is one more part in a new paradigm.

A new paradigm that requires new skills and whose success will depend on the ability to break down the various elements of a process; from there, we will begin to glimpse and define how to offer the best service.
